A Typical Day The Visitor Center Manger is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Hilmar Cheese Visitor Center (VC).
Key responsibilities include exceptional customer service, managing team performance, increased sales and profitability, using effective cost controls and the development and retention of VC employees.
Job Responsibilities Ensure that the Visitor Center operates efficiently and effectively with accountability for monthly P&L statements, including labor targets, cost of goods and expenses with regular reporting of sales.
Exhibit friendly customer service and the ability to investigate and resolve guest complaints and criticism in a positive manner.
Educate and empower team to act in a similar capacity.
Ensure a safe environment with adherence to all local, state, and federal laws and regulations (health, safety, sanitation and facilities).
Assist as an on-the-floor service manager as the business needs dictate (peak hours) or for a key catering event.
Hire, train/coach, schedule and conduct performance reviews of personnel which includes compliance with California Food Handle and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certifications.
Manage inventory (storage, rotation) with final review and approval of all purchase orders for retail and café inventory and transfer and track inventory distributed to additional Hilmar sites.
Develop and cost café and catering menus with the Chef.
Negotiate annual vendor contracts (food, beverages, etc.
).
Coordinate with the Hilmar Commercial team and co-packer to order, transfer and receive goods.
Direct visitor center repairs and maintenance using internal maintenance team and external vendors, and organize service and maintenance of two visitor center company vehicles.
Forecast seasonal offerings and source goods to coordinate timeline for annual gift box production and storage.
Partner with staff to perform month end procedures, invoicing and inventory reviews.
Oversee house accounts and provide support for Hilmar corporate sponsored donations, internal events, and fundraisers.
What You Will Need Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years’ related experience or equivalent experience.
3 years of leadership experience at manager or assistant manager level in the restaurant or food service industry Ability to work irregular hours and weekends as needed Demonstrated time management and organizational skills Experience working with Microsoft Office Software such as Word, Excel and Outlook, Point of Sales systems and Inventory Control systems.
Serv Safe Manager Certified (within 30 days of employment) Ability to lift up to 50lbs What Will Put You Ahead Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years’ related experience Understanding of menu costing Understanding of foodservice equipment operation Competent in One POS system, Optimum Inventory control, DataServ and/or SAP Physical Demands & Work Environment The role has periods of time when the work environment is sedentary and conducted in an office environment balanced with frequent occasions that require prolonged walking or standing, lifting/ carrying/handling moderate weight objects on a regular basis.
Is required to wear PPE and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations.
Must frequently interact with people verbally.
